| How to Back Up your ShareFinder Database |
Regular backups of your work enables you to recover from unforeseen circumstances such as computer hardware failure and natural disasters, as well as more common eventualities such as power failures or an operating system crash. Why back up your ShareFinder database?The database that you download from the RCIS website only contains the last 2½ years of share prices. If you have gathered up a longer history of share prices, they will be lost if not backed up. Restoring from backup may be faster than downloading a new database if you have a slow Internet connection. Alternatives to backing upYou can download a replacement database from our website here. The replacement will overwrite your existing database. If you are replacing due to a system crash, it is advisable to run a disk diagnostic program such as Scandisk, which is supplied with Windows 95, first. How to back up ShareFinder's databaseShareFinder's database is located in one of the following folders, depending on your data provider:
Determine which of the above folders is used on your system, then back up the entire contents of that folder. How to restore from a backupFirst reinstall ShareFinder with a 2½ year database, which you can download from here. You cannot simply restore the ShareFinder program files from a backup, since this will not restore the registry settings that bind together all of ShareFinder's program components. Then restore the database files from your backup, overwriting the existing files. |
