ShareFinder Database

ShareFinder 4/5 uses a new database system which is not compatible with the older database format used by ShareFinder 2. A new historical database is supplied with each ShareFinder program purchased.

Database Format

A proprietary database format is used to store daily share prices (open, close, high and low) and volumes for every listed share, as well as fundamental data and other information used by the program. The database structure has not been published and is not freely available at this time.

A typical database containing 2½ years of data consumes roughly 25MB of space on your computer's hard disk. This will grow as new data is added at the rate of about 42kB per day.

Updating the Database

Database updates are provided by a data provider service. A separate subscription to a data provider service is required, and the data provider must be one with whom we have contracted to provide updates that are suitable for ShareFinder to process.

The method of obtaining updates varies from one data provider to another, and may involve one of the following transport mechanisms: email, Internet transfer, or direct modem connection.

Accuracy of the Data

ShareFinder is able to retrospectively correct erroneous data that may have been supplied by the data provider. Corrections usually happen automatically within a few days. The data provider is responsible for the accuracy of the service he provides.

Converting a ShareFinder 2 Database

It is not possible to convert an existing ShareFinder 2 database into the format used by ShareFinder 5. We supply a new historical database to match your choice of data provider with each new program purchased.
